This coming year will be my tenth year living with Hashimoto's disease. It is an autoimmune disease where the body's antibodies attack the thyroid gland. The biggest side effect that I notice the most is being tired, all of the time. It's not clear what causes it, whether stress, pregnancy, or allergies trigger it. I've had it since my last pregnancy and had to live with the effects since then.
Another side effect of Hashimoto's is significant problems with pregnancy, birth, and miscarriages. This month, I realized how grateful I am to have the three children that I do, and to have had very easy pregnancies, that this disease wasn't triggered until after the last pregnancy. I can live with the side effects because these three beautiful blessings who bring me joy and laughter. Oh, I am so thankful to Heavenly Father for giving me these.
