B2B privacy software

Evidon

Evidon’s Tag Auditor - Get a 360° look under the hood of your websites and apps. Find out what’s really happening to your customers — and to their data. Create alignment between IT and Marketing, drive digital marketing ROI, and ensure you are in compliance with global privacy regulations.

As the Director of User Experience, I led the research and design of Evidon's proprietary software for companies to help them manage privacy legal requirements and govern their use of marketing technologies.

  • Defined and validated Evidon's proprietary privacy software with lawmakers in the EU, ad tech companies, and the FTC to be compliant with Global Privacy Regulations (i.e., GDPR, Canada’s PIPEDA, ePrivacy Directive “Cookie Law”).

  • Increased installs to 10,000 a day and 10M daily users of the Ghostery Browser Extension, earned a five-star rating in Chrome, Firefox, and was featured as a must-have extension in the new Edge store

  • Managed the design team based in Utah and New York.

  • Created a design system for the Evidon suite of products, designed Evidon's logo and websites

Ghostery

Ghostery Browser Extension, a browser extension that lets users detect and block third party web technologies for a cleaner, faster, safer browsing experience.

Endorsed by Edward Snowden, the privacy browser had become a hit among tech geeks. I was hired to design a new version of the extension for a broader audience.

The redesigned product was launched at New York Comic Con in 2016. According to one review, the new design was "better than kissing." It was designed to keep power users happy and also attract new users with less technical backgrounds. The newly designed extension earned a five-star rating in Chrome, and Firefox, and was featured as a must-have extension in the newly launched Edge store. It had increased installs to 10,000 a day with a user base of 10 million daily users.

The Ghostery extension was sold in February 2017 to Cliqz, a privacy company owned by Mozilla.

product leadership

Enterprise Go-to-market Release Process

Growing from 100 to 500 employees in a year created growth pains for Workfront. As Director of User Experience, I worked with a leadership council to define a product development process that would address our growing team sizes and reduce problems for our enterprise customers who needed stability with their work management platform.

  • The new process aligned Product, Design, Dev, and Product marketing for operational efficiency.

  • Introduced a process for internal readiness to train customer support and sales teams on upcoming features prior to public releases.

  • Established a “release train” flow for enterprise customers, with monthly minor updates and major six-month releases.

  • After the leadership council had aligned on the new process, I worked with our engineering leadership to customize our workflows and dev environments.

  • Reduced disruption to customer setup and increased customer sentiment towards their work management tool.

  • Created a preview sandbox for customer support to train admins on new features

Workfront was acquired by Adobe in 2020

Testimonials

Emmy can see the holes in product and process and identify the team members who have the right skills to merge the gaps. I’ve watched Emmy motivate entire teams to come together with a singular purpose and make huge strides in product and morale.
— Krissie Shelley, UX Designer at Nav

Emmy is a rare mix of top-flight UX talent with the calm and reassuring style of a true leader. She led design for complex regulatory compliance products, working with global companies, regulators, and privacy advocates to create first-of-its-kind solutions. She also drove higher adoption and customer satisfaction with the popular Ghostery consumer browser app.
— Scott Meyer, CEO of Ghostery

Emmy is a triple threat; Brilliant, talented, and dedicated. She took over a small design team and established order, alignment, and a path for professional development. She then leveled up the existing talent and hired A-players, doubling the size of the team. Next, she took ownership for a product pivot coupled with a redesign, that she masterfully executed both as a UX and product leader. As a leader Emmy can drive hard, but makes all the effort not feel like work.
— Scott Schlegel, CTO of Nav
